Kristen for school board

Background

Kristen grew up as an Air Force brat, which means she had the experience of moving around frequently due to her Father being in the Air Force. She completed her high school education in Germany.

After completing high school, Kristen received a track scholarship to attend LU. She pursued her education there and earned a degree in Special Education, specializing in working with students who have special needs.

Following her graduation, Kristen began her career as a teacher in the local community. She taught in the field of Special Education, utilizing her knowledge and expertise to support students with unique learning requirements.

After a few years of teaching, Kristen took some time off to focus on starting a family and raising her children. However, instead of returning to the teaching profession, she decided to pursue a different path by becoming involved in the School Board.

Kristen's new aspiration is to represent parents and teachers on the School Board. By taking on this role, she aims to advocate for the interests and concerns of both parents and educators, using her firsthand experience in the education system to bring about positive change.

Overall, Kristen's journey from being an Air Force brat to becoming a Special Education graduate, a teacher, and now a School Board representative showcases her commitment to education and her dedication to making a difference in the lives of students, parents, and teachers.

My top issues

  • Pro students first- Our students have endured so much upheaval in the last few years due to the COVID pandemic. They have all missed out on detrimental and pivotal life milestones. Academically, socially, emotionally, and developmentally our students, teachers and parents are trying their best to make up for lost time. We have to make sure NO students have fallen through the cracks, we have to ensure ALL students are getting the interventions they need.  We must ensure our Special needs students are being provided the essential interventions they need for their development.

  • Pro Parents rights- WE have a voice in OUR children's education. The government works FOR THE PEOPLE, not the other way around. We have a right to know what's going on with our children we care so deeply about and for everyday.

  • Pro Teachers- Our teachers need to feel supported not just financially, but by administration with behavior and additional assistance to help with COVID educational setbacks.

  • No LGBTQIA+ issues in schools. Children should not be having any type of gender identity or sexual orientation conversations with teachers. These delicate conversations should be kept between a student and their parents, doctors, and therapists.

  • Let Children keep their innocence- Children need to be worried about learning reading and math, or what they are going to play with when they get home.

  • No Critical Race theory- It is not the color of our skin but the content of our character. Encourage respect, kindness and empathy between all students regardless of backgrounds.

  • Social Emotional Learning-   We can weed out  misleading standards and use the ones WE find most important. Social and Emotional learning standards are essential skills to help understand all aspects of life, including reading comprehension, critical thinking skills, and interpersonal skills.
